1. Discuss the character of either Gilgamesh or Enkidu in terms of one of Ovid’s stories that we have read. For best results, you will want to focus on one aspect of a story from Ovid that you have chosen, and use that aspect as a lens to evaluate either Gilgamesh or Enkidu.
2. Discuss the tension between Gilgamesh and Enkidu (as representing two opposites) to reach a kind of balance or “new self.” Contrarily, perhaps no balance is reached? Whatever your stance, remember to narrow your topic, as you need to have a single focus.
3. Think carefully about a recurring image (including the images various characters, themselves, represent) in The Epic of Gilgamesh and evaluate how that image represents and/or guides a major theme in the story. In your evaluation of the image, think about how this image “evolves,” and remember to consider the ending of the epic.
You will be graded on the following:
A clear, focused thesis which examines how a social issue is presented in a text or texts.
A logical ordering of ideas.
smooth transitions between ideas.
Nicely organized paragraphs (assertion; introduction of support; detailed support; explanatory sentence or sentences connecting your support to your thesis)
Thorough development.
Correct grammar.
Diction (appropriate/correct word choice; interesting, varied vocabulary)
