In order to complete this assignment, you will need to watch the PBS Frontline documentary entitled “Solitary Nation”.

After you watch this video, I would like you to answer the following questions.

• I would like you to give a general synopsis of this movie. Who are the main characters we are introduced to? What lead them to solitary confinement, and what are some of the obstacles they are facing because of their confinement situation
• What are some of the legal issues presented in this video? Respond to the legal issues raised in this video utilizing material you learned about in Chapter 6 of our text.
• I would like you to state whether you are for the continued use of solitary confinement in today’s prisons.  If you do believe in the continued use of solitary confinement, what are some things that can be done to reduce some of the problems that are faced today? If you would favor the discontinued use of solitary confinement, what alternatives would you suggest for prison officials to use in place of solitary confinement?
