Purpose:

The purpose of this task is for students to construct an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents. Each citation is followed by a brief descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation (Approx. 200 words). The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.

Process:

To complete this task, students will think critically and make judgments; access and manage detailed information on the available academic literature on the topic of Diversity and Difference: Mental health conditions, symptoms and evidence-based treatment approaches for diverse peoples including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

To complete this task, students will:
Read and critically select 8 articles to cite and annotate
Arrange the inclusions alphabetically according to the author’s last name using APA formatting
Provide a 200 word descriptive and evaluative summary with a total word limit of the annotated bibliography to be 2000 words (+ / – 10%, excluding citations) (use a MS Word document)

Provide the full bibliographic citation using APA referencing
Summarise the content or scope of the text
Outline the main argument
Identify the research methods (if applicable)
Identify any conclusions made by the author/s
Evaluate the content of the text
Choose only texts from reliable sources, such as peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters
Highlight any special features of the text that were unique or helpful (charts, graphs etc.)
Point out in what way the text uniquely contributes to the topic of: Diversity and Difference: Mental health conditions, symptoms and evidence-based treatment approaches for diverse people
Note that diversity can relate to culture, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, and disability
Include at least one text relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
State the strengths and limitations of the text (e.g. research methodology)
Present your view or reaction to the text
