Description

Purpose: The student will be able to locate and utilize demographic and epidemiological data to identify the need for a population health intervention.
Background: According to Healthy People 2020 data (2020), there are more than 19 million new cases of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) every year, most of which are found in 15-24 year olds. There has been no significant increase in the number of young adults seeking Reproductive and Sexual Health Services since 2006 (U.S. DHHS, 2020).
Situation: You are the nurse case manager for Berkeley and Jefferson County Health Departments and are responsible for allocating resources for STI education and services within these counties. The Health Department received a federal grant for additional services in these counties for STI education and testing. You are tasked with a needs assessment of these communities to help guide allocation of funding and program planning. The needs assessment should describe the target population’s characteristics and identify those most at risk. The population is 15-24 year old females living in Berkeley and Jefferson counties.
Information to include in the Needs Assessment includes:
1. Define Sexually Transmitted Infection.
2. Describe the geographical area of the target population.
3. Describe relevant demographic data.
4. Describe relevant epidemiological data (US, WV state and county-specific statistics).
5. List appropriate Healthy People 2020 goals and Healthy People 2010 data.
6. Interpret and draw conclusions from the data, including comparing WV to US national data for STIs.
7. Make recommendations for fund allocation and education based on the priority needs of the community.
General Directions:
1. The paper should be a maximum of 5 pages of narrative, in addition to a title page and reference page.
2. The assignment should be completed using APA Format.
