For my evidenced based topics, I chose Prevention and Management of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM).
2.Identify potential BSN care practices.
Some of the nursing care practices that I am interested in using for my EBP project + Paper #2 + EBP Poster are:
Early screening and diagnosis of GDM to prevent maternal and fetal complications.
Referral to nutritional counseling to develop a plan for lifestyle modifications.
Routine blood glucose monitoring to maintain glycemic control.
Providing education on GDM and related complications, such as hypertension and macrosomia.
Follow-up screening during the postpartum period.
- Identify barriers to implementing EBP in a clinical setting.
GDM is a common metabolic condition that can occur during pregnancy, especially for women who are high risk. There are no barriers to implementing EBP in the clinical setting because there are clinical practice guidelines in place to managing GDM. Perhaps a major barrier to implementing EBP is language barriers, especially if there are no interpretation services available. As a nurse, I must respect the client’s cultural values when implementing certain practices.
- Which types of activities will you use for selecting your topic?
The main activity that I will use for selecting my topic is research using EBP articles and journals. I will also use my maternity textbook for additional information.
