• This assignment requires you to present a written research proposal for a student-led small-scale research based study (appropriate to the requirements of PE7001 Research Based Study within the MSc Surveying Programme)
• The proposal you develop, and the feedback you obtain, can be used to inform your subsequent Research Based Study module (PE7001)
• Within the proposal, you are required to develop a sound and informed plan for your research based study based on an understanding of the research process, informed by reference to research literature. It should include the following aspects:
o Purpose and focus of the proposed research study: ie proposed aims and objectives (intended outcomes) for your study; definition of research question(s) to be addressed or hypothesis to be tested; rationale for proposed focus, grounded in evidence from practice and theory (why relevant and significant); A working title
o Initial literature review; identification and critical exploration of initial supporting literature and its relevance to your focus
o Proposed empirical research design for your study – theoretical and methodological approaches, strategies and methods of data collection and analysis; this should be justified in relation to your aims and objectives and the research methods literature
o Work plan/ timetable for completing the different aspects of the research process within the proposed research based study (PE7001)
