Part 1. Please list 5 things (~two sentences each) that you learned or found interesting in this module as well as why you found each item useful or interesting (e.g., I learned more about X. This was helpful to learn more about because Y.). Please try to be specific.

Part 2. Problem Based Learning Exercise:

Problem for this Week/Module: A large hospital system in Georgia, due to state law, must report instances of certain disease (e.g., Botulism, Cholera, COVID-19, Hep C, etc.)  to the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) (https://dph.georgia.gov/epidemiology/disease-reporting). Right now, the options for reporting are: Use the SENDSS system which requires retyping the case information into a web form and submitting, call DPH, or fax a notifiable disease form to DPH. Let’s say, however, that DPH is moving away from requiring manual data reentry into a web form (SENDSS), calling, or faxing, and wants to move to a type of system called Electronic Case Reporting (eCR). Given what you have learned in this module, what do you think the large hospital system and the DPH will need to do in order to enable successful and automatic transfers of case reports for notifiable diseases from the hospital system to DPH via eCR?

Analysis: Please briefly describe at least two challenges that are either inherent to this problem or that may occur when trying to resolve this problem.

  1. Challenge #1:
  2. Challenge #2:

Brainstorming: Please describe two different ways in which the problem above could be addressed. Please also briefly describe the possible pros (benefits) and cons (risks) of each idea if it were to be implemented.

  1. Idea #1:
    1. Possible Benefits:
    2. Possible Risks:
  2. Idea #2:
    1. Possible Benefits:
    2. Possible Risks:

Recommendation: Given the brainstorming above, which one of the two ideas would you recommend for resolving this problem and why? Please also describe how you would address risks with implementing or moving forward with your recommended idea.
