Narrowing your claim to a specific or general group of people. Ask yourself, “Who cares about this, and what are they saying?” This will help you connect your topic to a wider conversation and focus your illustrations and analysis according to your audience’s values.

Narrowing your claim by choosing to think about specific events that have been impacted by or have impacted your topic. This will help you think about background and context.

Thinking about what your topic means to you – Ask yourself, “now or in the future, how has this topic affected me, personally, socially, economically, ideologically, etc.?” Closely examine your own biases about the topic, and then return to your ideas about audience, looking at the topic from multiple perspectives, examining how it affects people differently. This will help you be objective and ethical.
Requirements: (note – please use a total of 4 sources for your paper.)

2-4 academic (i.e. journals and books published by educational institutions) resources from our library’s databases, from google scholar, or from other accredited educational institutions
2 possible news sources. Choose credible ones from the provided graph! Make sure you differentiate between fact based articles and opinion editorials.
Paper length: 6-8 pages

Form checklist:

A well-developed intro that captures the reader’s attention and provides background, linking your argument to a wider discussion about your topic.
A thesis statement written as a complex sentence that takes an arguable position, shows the counter argument, and demonstrates logical reasoning forecasting the structure of your body paragraphs.
Clear transitions between each paragraph (be creative and use a cohesive structure when developing transitions)
At least 4 body paragraphs. Each body paragraph may support your position, qualify it, and/or demonstrate refuting arguments for it.
Paragraph development: TRIAC – please include 2 concrete illustrations and analysis in each paragraph.
Illustrations establish the argument through evidence based research and thinking: outside sources, examples, additional reasons, facts, and/or statistics
Quotes should be framed using C.E.
Conclusion that summarizes key points while reinforcing your thesis statement’s position.
Your paper will be graded on using correct MLA citation and formatting guidelines.
