Service-Learning Action Project:
The service action project’s main point is for you to understand how the increase in carbon dioxide relates to you, and what you can do to help this huge problem that is detrimental to marine organisms in three ways, 1) increasing sea surface temperatures 2) ocean acidification, and 3) sea level rise.
Please explore the following website on Carbon Reduction Challenge (CRC). CRC is a Challenge designed by Dr. Kim Cobb. Students will be doing a simplified version of her challenge. You will work on your Carbon Challenge by yourself.
CRC website: https://cobblab.eas.gatech.edu//energy/e_crc.html (Links to an external site.)
Your assignment this week is to:
- Explore 2012, 2013, and 2015 Challenge results from Dr. Cob’s students.
- Read the challenge results for 2012, 2013, and 2015 Challenge results from Dr. Cob’s students. https://cobblab.eas.gatech.edu//energy/e_crc.html(Links to an external site.)
- Describe five ways her students have averted CO2Look through the different ways to reduce CO2 and look at the calculations in 2013 final report posters https://cobblab.eas.gatech.edu//energy/crc_2013.html (Links to an external site.)
- How do you feel about the calculations?
- Keep in mind that you will pick one to implement in a couple weeks.
- Please pick at least one way to avert CO2from every year (2012, 2013, and 2015).
- Are there items that you were not aware of or items that you already knew? If so, discuss them.
- How is the increase in carbon dioxide affecting the ocean/marine organism negatively? Describe three ways.
- Click on the following link: https://drawdown.org/solutions/table-of-solutions(Links to an external site.)
Click on scenario 1 to rank the solutions by size (largest at the top). What is the rank of Health and Education?
https://drawdown.org/solutions/health-and-education (Links to an external site.)
- How many gigatons of CO2equivalent can be averted (Reduced/sequestered) by the global health and education?
- Discuss the top ranked solutions that were surprising to you. Did you already know that these were great contributors to increased atmospheric CO2concentrations? Why or why not?
- Submit the answers to the questions above in a paragraph form and cite your resources. MLA or APA is acceptable.

In the future (not this assignment), you will have to calculate CO2 averted . This calculations will be rough estimate. I will not grade on accuracy; I want to see your thought process.
Submit the answer to the questions above.
