Is the content located within a particular school of thought or ideological positioning? Could you locate it within a debate? Are there other views presented elsewhere that support or counter the views in your sources?
Do the sources provide empirical evidence to support claims made, or are they based on theory and argument? How persuasive do you find them? Make it explicit which approach you have chosen and why. If you are reading within a subtheme, think about how the different readings complement and complete each other. If reading across subthemes, think about how the different readings provide different insights You should provide a critical summary of the readings. Here, “critical” does not mean “negative”, but “reflexive”. In other words, you should not just be providing a précis of the contents, but thinking about how the reading informs your understanding of the topic.
