My topic is pay gaps in sports ………… for my human communications class. One big “solution” for this would be advertisement….

You are to craft a 1,200-1,500 word formal essay in which you clearly identify and discuss the topic on which you are writing and the position you are taking. Explain the critical/cultural implications of your topic, then detail the plan of action you advocate to address or improve the situation. You are expected to work through you argument systematically in a series of vivid and clearly organized paragraphs, with each paragraph presenting and adequately developing one key idea. Your writing should be appropriate in tone and quality for a college-level class and should be free of errors of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and style.
For maximum persuasive effectiveness, skillfully blend ethos, pathos, and logos to convince your audience that change is necessary and that the change for which you advocate is appropriate. You should use a logical, comprehensible system of argumentation (e.g., the Toulmin Model, deductive/inductive reasoning: see Chapter 3) to empower your readers to understand your argument.
Begin your essay with an introduction that previews the main ideas and organization of your paper and features a strong, direct thesis statement. Conclude your essay by summarizing your main points and leave your audience with a strong or intriguing parting thought to encourage us to go out and undertake the change you are advocating.

You are expected to conduct significant research for this project to support your claims and demonstrate to your audience that you are informed on your topic and qualified to advocate real- life action. You must cite at least five credible sources in your paper, and all sources must be credible, unbiased, and should add something significant to your argument. Cite all sources in the body of your text in MLA or APA style, and attach an appropriately formatted MLA/APA reference page at the end of your essay (note: your reference page does not count toward the six- page minimum).
You will be assessed on the completeness, depth, and organization of your argument; the strength of connection between your social issue and the solution you advocate; your ability to skillfully integrate research and the quality of your sources; and your spelling, grammar, and language use.
