PROJECT: WORLD WAR II – HOME FRONT
For most Americans, World War II inspired hard work, cooperation, and patriotism. Citizens bought war bonds and saved scrap metal, and women and minorities filled vacant jobs. Americans coped with rationing and housing shortages. The war also caused population movement. Six million migrants left for cities, many on the West Coast where the war industry mobilized. School enrollment sank as teenagers took jobs or joined the armed services.

Write a 500-word report describing some of the efforts of Americans as they supported World War II from the home front. This should include a paragraph about Rosie the Riveter and the government’s efforts to encourage women and minorities into becoming part of the work force. Include in your essay specific examples of support for World War II from people who lived in your particular area at that time.
