In order to practice your critical thinking and rhetorical analysis skills, analyze Parramore’s essay by answering the following questions:
What is the essay’s thesis or main claim? (Hint: the thesis must be debatable).
Give at least two examples of support or reasoning the writer uses. How is the support or reasoning effective or ineffective?
Find at least one place where you feel the reasoning fails. (NOTE: this will segue into a later discussion we will have about logical fallacies.)
How does the writer appeal to your logic or mind? How does the writer appeal to your emotion? How does the writer appeal to character or ethics?
