Clinical practice experience

Critically evaluate a management and/or leadership issue with reference to recent clinical practice experience. The essay should include reference to current national policy and guidance relating to practice.

Introduction (400 words):
-Identify the leadership or management issue that forms the focus of this assignment.
-Outline the importance of this issue in terms of current national policy and legislation related to practice. (LO4)

Main body PART ONE (1000 words):
-Evaluate a range of theoretical principles and processes associated with modern leadership or management to your chosen practice based example. (LO1, LO2)

Main body PART TWO (1000 words):
-Identify and critically analyse the evidence that underpins the practice issue being discussed. (LO5)

Main body PART THREE (1200 words):
-Critically analyse the leadership or management approach that was taken or that could be taken to address this identified situation, including risk management and National Quality Assurance strategies. (LO3)

-Additionally, you should focus on your role and the role of the nurse in leading or managing the identified issue – teamwork, inter- professional learning, self-development – and the impact on practice for patients and colleagues. (LO6)

Learning Outcomes (LO):
1. Evaluate the principles and theories/styles of leadership and management and management and change to determine their relevance to the care setting and the provision of healthcare services.

2. Evaluate the concepts and processes of leadership and management, management of change in relation to the delivery of healthcare and professional practice.

3. Critically analyse the National, political and local drivers for leadership and change management, change agents, barriers/resistance, quality and safety, the quality assurance, clinical governance and risk management strategies, NICE and their relevance to the clinical setting.

4. Analyse and apply legislation and policy on the provision of healthcare in England and Wales and reflect on the implications for professional practice.

5. Analyse research and other evidence and justify healthcare decisions, even when made on the basis of limited information and engage in legally and ethically defensible practice.
