Sport Management
Case Study: Gil’s Sportsplex Chapter 6
If you were considering building a sportsplex somewhere in the northeastern United States, where would you build it? Choose your ideal location based on demographics or other criteria that you can justify. Then use the Internet to find an open plot of land that is large enough to sustain your facility. As an example, typical urban golf courses need around 110 to 120 acres, whereas resort courses are larger, averaging around 170 to 190 acres. A softball facility can range from 20 to 60 acres but could be much larger if additional land is acquired for future expansion. Thus, you need to make sure the plot of land is large enough. How much will it cost to purchase the land? Draw a rough diagram of the land and how your facility will fit on the land. Make sure you focus on the topography of the land and the orientation of the facility on the land.
