Section 3 Research Exercise
Section III of the Integrated Research Essay is your FINAL section and asks you to outline the following:
1. What are the major consequences of Side 1 “succeeding”! getting what it hopes for?
2. What are the major consequences of Side 2 “succeeding” / getting what it hopes for?
3. Given these consequences, what are some proposed solutions or compromises you think might help solve (or at least alleviate) the problem?
Step 1.
Finding Consequences 11Start with an Internet search using the phrase: “Consequences OR Effects of (side l’s wish for your topic/conflict)” Example: Consequences of creating a path to citizenship for ‘dreamers’ Consequences of requiring ‘dreamers’ to use established methods of seeking citizenship. Repeat the process with the hoped-for result of Side 2. Try to find 2-3 major consequences and at least 2 sources for each side. Remember to use information only from sources you’ve scrutinized for credibility.
3. Navigate a Database
After reading about consequences and possible compromises, go to the LIBRARY DATABASES tab in the ENGL 110 Library Guide. Use the ‘one search’ feature to find at least one article on your topic.
4. Consolidate Sources
Locate information in the database source(s) that aligns with what you discovered through your internet search. Add the quotes / paraphrases / summaries (and appropriate citations) to the listed consequences / compromises for each side. Use the answers as a framework for drafting Section 3.
