To achieve the qualification the Extended Diploma Assessment must be completed and achieved by all learners.

The completed Extended Diploma Assessment should not exceed 5,000 words.
Work that is more than 10% above this limit will not be marked.
References and quotations within the text are not included in the word limit.
Plagiarism will result in the work being returned unmarked and a refer grade will be issued.

Extended Diploma Assessment
One extended assessment theme must be chosen from the following:
T1 Professional practice in health and social care
T2 Empowerment within health and social care
The Extended Diploma Assessment will be graded D to A*.
To achieve the Extended Diploma Assessment learners must achieve the minimum of a D grade.
The Extended Diploma Assessment must be undertaken by following these criteria:
D grade
D1 Describe key issues that apply to the theme.
D2 Discuss the relevance of the key issues to the theme.
D3 Show evidence of reading or use of sources.
C grade
C1 Discuss how your underpinning knowledge of relevant theory or legislation enables you to understand the key issues in D1.
C2 Discuss how the relevant values, principles or standards underpin the theme.
C3 Show evidence of reading or use of sources with referencing relevant to the discussion.
B grade
B1 Analyse the relevance of recognised theory or legislation that contributes to the theme.
B2 Analyse how ensuring equality, diversity and inclusive practice can impact on provision/practice in relation to the theme.
B3 Reflect on own learning from the theme and implications for effective future practice.
B4 Show evidence of reading or use of sources. Referencing supports analysis or reflection.
A grade
A1 Evaluate evidence which supports the belief that the key issues identified in D1 are relevant to working within health and social care.
A2 Evaluate the impact on practice in the areas of work covered by the theme, of the recognised theory or legislation in B1.
A3 Reflect on and explain practitioner responsibility to maintain professional development in relation to the theme.
A4 Show evidence of wider background reading or use of sources. Referencing supports evaluation or reflection.
A* grade
A*1 Critically evaluate how the influence of theory or legislation in relation to the theme can affect health and social care practice.
A*2 Critically evaluate own professional development in relation to the theme to develop recommendations for own future practice.
A*3 Justify thoughtful ideas. Show evidence of a range of background reading or sources used selectively.
