The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo guaranteed Mexican Americans “the enjoyment of all rights of citizens of the U.S. and according to the principles of the Constitution; and in the meantime [they]
shall be maintained and protected in the free enjoyment of their liberty and property, and secured in the free exercise of their religion without restriction.”
1. In reflecting on this week’s readings and video, how have the rights of Mexican Americans been upheld or opposed?
2. What are illustrated examples in history where Mexican American rights have been violated or respected?
3. What sorts of oppression did Mexican Americans undergo in the West?
