Motivation, Emotion, Sleep, and Sex

Instructions:

PART 1: Choose ONE topic: motivation, emotion, or sex and address the following questions (350 words minimum):

o Identify and briefly explain the primary structures in the network of regions that control human motivation, emotion, or sexual behavior as identified in your textbook. Include what functions each region is thought to control and end by explaining what was most surprising or seemed most interesting. (150 words minimum)

o How does that information compare to recent (within the last year) peer-reviewed experiment or literature review on this topic? If you report on an experiment, begin with a description of the research study, its hypotheses, methods, key results, and most important results. If you report on a literature review, identify the main relevant findings. Last, explain how these results compare to our text. (200 words minimum)

PART 2: Choose at least one of the following questions:

o What does recent brain research tell us about sexual differentiation in the brain and/or the biological psychology of gender similarities and differences? Remember to focus on peer-reviewed research, be sensitive of people’s emotional reactions to discussions of sex/gender and avoid arguing any personal, political, or other non-scientific topics.

o How does the biological psychology of motivation, emotion, or sex apply to at least two of the following topics:

 Personal life
 Work-life or organizations
 Social or cultural issues
 Legal issues
 Economic issues
 Other practical implications or applications of your choice.
