AQ and Smoke Management Resources in Tennessee
Objective: Write a report describing the Air Quality and Smoke Management resources available to land management agencies in your state, tribe, or country. If selecting a state or tribe in the United States, as part of your essay include a brief description of the State or Tribal Implementation Plans (SIPs/TIPs) and how they are reflected in the resources. Pay particular attention to the role of these policies on the ability to conduct prescribed fires when a region is already in non-attainment or has had high wildfire activity that year.
Report Instructions:
This report should be typed and should be at least the equivalent of 10 single spaced typed pages. Feel free to use single or double line spacing.
This essay should include the following elements:
Introduction:
The introduction should be 3 paragraphs of 5-6 sentences each.
To meet expectations, a brief history of when air quality and smoke management policies / acts were enacted in that state/tribe should be included. This brief history should also include and comment on the impacts of relevant federal policies and laws.
Review of Evidence:
This section should be at least 5 paragraphs. The review of evidence should include information from at least 5 sources. Wikipedia does not count towards this number and will not count as a source.
To meet expectations, include at least two images for each state/tribe selection that helps convey your argument.
Discussion of Evidence:
This section can be 3-4 paragraphs long.
To meet expectations, an objective discussion should be including outlining why states/tribes have achieved (or not) their current level of information on air quality and smoke management.
To meet expectations the discussion should include an in-depth comparison of why the two states/tribes have developed differently (or similarly). This should refer back to the timing and substance of laws and policies and refer to major events (if any) that shaped the development of those laws and policies.
Conclusions
This section should be at least two paragraphs of 5-6 sentences each.
To meet expectations, the first paragraph should re-summarize the objectives of the report and highlight the types of sources used. The second paragraph succinctly summarize whether you believe the available resources are sufficient and if not, what potential resources could be made available. Regardless of your answer, defend your decision.
