(This is SAMPLE ESSAY)
As a person of color attending only Predominately White institutions all of my education, I learn to search for belonging in those that seek to provide it. Along the journey where there was no such thing I had to create it and become the person that made others feel included and comfortable knowing what it felt like to be uncomfortable. Because of this I gained the empathy to change atmospheres for the better everywhere I went. I appreciate the University of Minnesota’s dedication to diversity, because representation is key especially in schools because you want every student to believe in what you are teaching them really does apply to them. I believe all of this is responsible forthe interests in Communication Studies and ASL because it is breaking barriers and giving a voice to those often muted.
