Community Event Reflection
Find and participate in a macro social work–oriented event either online or in person.
After the event Write a reflection answering the following questions in 3–4 pages. Review the rubric, it is provided to help you understand the expectations for the assignment.
Use the following questions to organize your reflection; including a heading for each question:
- What was the event? (title, date, time, location or online platform) Who was the event’s target macro client, defined by population, problem, and arena? What were the perceived goals of the event?
- Do you think the event accomplished its goals?
- Discuss participation in the event. Was the event attended or organized by the target macro population?
- Were there power dynamics evident between the organizers, participants, and macro population (if members of that group were not in attendance)?
- What assets were evident at the event that might be leveraged in support of the macro client? Describe how the event fits into one of the community practice models.
- What was the main takeaway relevant to macro practice?
- Share your ideas with one another for what you can do!
You may watch a pre-recorded meeting if it is recent (within the past 60 days). Check UK and other universities and colleges. Look at NASW Chapters for events and ideas. Use the Community Event Ideas (assignment due Module 5) to share ideas.
