Case Study on FIFA and the World Cup
Provide clear, well-written, and complete answers to each of the following five questions. Each question is worth 20 points. (These are multifaceted questions. Be sure to address all facets.) You must use appropriate and correct business writing throughout. That requires your answers to be specific, clear, complete, and useful – something your boss or supervisor could read and use. Do not waste space on flowery or superfluous language. You must use appropriate and correct paragraphing throughout, as well as correct grammar and punctuation.
Questions for Analysis
- What are the challenges facing Gianni Infantino and Arsène Wenger? Why are those important? What makes them challenging?
- Consider the stakeholders who will be affected by any changes to the status quo in FIFA’s governance and policymaking. Who are the stakeholders? What are their respective positions and concerns? Why?
- Consider the stakeholders again with reference to the FIFA World Cup. What are their specific needs and concerns? How and why are those important for what Infantino and/or Wenger may be able to do, and not to do? Explain.
- Given your analyses to the first three questions, how do you evaluate what Infantino and Wenger have done to pursue and enable change in FIFA and for the World Cup? What do you see as the strengths of their vision and actions (if any)? What do you see as the weaknesses (if any)? Explain.
- If you were a senior staff member at FIFA, how would you advise Infantino and Wenger to proceed? What would you encourage them to do? What would you suggest they not do, or that they should avoid? For what reasons? In what ways would your advice to Infantino be similar to what you advise Wenger, and how might it be different in focus or content? Why?
