Anti-slavery/abolition movement
Part one
Considering the anti-slavery/abolition movement and the importance of slavery in the pre-Civil War period, evaluate:
- the impact of the movement and
- the impact of slavery 1830-1860
Remember to write your answer in paragraph format, with introduction of your evaluation of the two issues (thesis), and conclusion summing up the thesis and evidence. Use material from Give Me Liberty, Voices, and module topic pages.
Part. two
For your Week 8 Reflection, consider:
Explain the most significant ways in which freedom was both expanded and limited during Reconstruction.
In your conclusion, consider how this experience influenced the future of freedom and opportunity for African Americans and women. How does it influence how we think today about racial inequality?
Part three
Write a reflection this week about executive powers and and their limits.
- Explain Congressional oversight of the president including impeachment, give examples.
- Do you think the limits work?
- What if Congress will not hold the president accountable to the rule of law and the Constitution? (This is the challenge for today’s January 6 Committee.)
