Writing about clinical laboratory science profession
The students will select a health care profession that will be approved by the instructor. The students will then use what they have learned about finding reliable, accurate, peer-reviewed information to research specific aspects of their topic that will include: education/training necessary for the profession, typical professional duties of, career outlook, and any laboratory tests commonly performed or used in the treatment, diagnosis, or prevention of diseases or medical conditions that their professional may be involved with. The student will properly cite sources used in their research using APA format. Student must include three peer-reviewed sources.
- A) Describe the profession you have selected: title, education necessary, typical role in health care delivery, how would this profession be involved in treating or in the overall care of a patient with your selected disease topic?
- B) What information from the laboratory is necessary for the selected professional to perform his/her services to the patient?
- D) Select 5 specific laboratory tests that would be useful in diagnosis, treatment, or monitoring of the disease associates with the profession you selected. For each laboratory result, explain what department of the clinical laboratory that test is performed in, what type of sample is needed and how would that sample be collected, what type of personnel is needed to test this sample ; How is the test result significant to the patient’s case? What would happen to the patient if there were no laboratory results, only what the physicians’ and nurses could actually see? This information should be presented in an organized table or chart.
- E) Students will be expected to provide peer-reviewed sources to back-up their statements. An APA format reference page will be required and must contain at least 3 sources.
