The Transatlantic dispute of GMO’s: Conceptualising the notion of power and influence within a constructivist framework
Discipline: International relations
The first draft of the essay aims to discuss the trade dispute of GMOs between the United States and Europe. It should develop the argument through a constructivist framework that accounts for the power and influence of the US and EU through the trade dispute of GMOs.
My current research includes a focus on:
– Cultural/social regulatory framework
– Cooperation/possibility of a trade war
– the power and influence of the World Trade Organisation’s involvement
Lecturer’s feedback suggestion: Needs to be more concise with the theory of constructivism (narrow it down to a specific reading or type of constructivism since constructivism is a broad meta theory) and link my points throughout the essay to that theory. As of yet, it lacks specificity in terms of the constructivist lens and also needs to properly address the power and influence.
Some suggestions for the rewrite based on the research I have done so far is to make the essay focus on the my final argument being – a cultural constructivist lens proves that the power and influence of the US and EU during the transatlantic dispute meant the US lost their position as hegemonic power.
