Nursing Research Identified Problems Stroke Patients and the Lack of Access to the Community Resources.
This week we will focus on the theoretical/conceptual framework that serves to organize the proposed research. In addition to this week’s learning activities, review the evidence you are collecting for your proposed study. A study will often cite a theory from which it is framed and will provide an example of how theories are utilized in the study. This example and your readings this week on conceptual frameworks will assist with the construction of a conceptual map. In addition this week you will submit the Literature Review section of your proposal. Each week you have been adding to your growing body of evidence to support your problem and proposed innovation to address the problem.
To advance your understanding of the concepts this week, take time to read the assigned readings and research studies related to the key features of theoretical/conceptual frameworks. There are multiple theories, therefore finding the theory that best fits your research question and intervention can be done by examining the theory concepts. Examples of nursing theory include the well-known Brenner theory of “Novice to Expert” which provides a theoretical basis for studies that ask questions related to what types of interventions improve performance or satisfaction in new graduates.
As you plan your nursing research proposal, consider that theories are the basis for the theoretical framework. The theoretical framework is exactly as what is says; a structure from which to connect the ideas to empirical concepts of how to measure the variables of interest.
The theoretical framework, research question, purpose, and intervention complement each other. The framework is more than a theory; its purpose is to frame the research study with respect to boundaries and expectations of the results.
Your Learning Objectives for the Week:
• Evaluate research as the basis for decision-making to improve outcomes through translation into evidence-based practice.
• Synthesize an understanding of the research process through development of a proposal to address a nursing problem or focus area identified in nursing practice.
