Wk 5 – Summative Assessment: Diversion Program Assessment
Problem solving and critical thinking in the criminal justice field is about more than just solving crimes. There are numerous diversion programs at the city, county, and state level to reduce recidivism rates by helping offenders rehabilitate. Criminal justice practitioners assess the effectiveness of these programs and make adjustments that are aimed at bringing about more successful results. In this summative assessment, you research and assess a diversion program in your city, county, or state.
Select a diversion program in your city, county, or state to research and assess.
Write an 875- to 1,050-word paper in which you do the following:
Summarize the services, participant requirements, and program outcomes of the selected diversion program.
Describe the demographics of the participants and the target population of offenders in the diversion program based on data reports.
Assess the effectiveness of the diversion program, including statistics on the number of individuals diverted compared with the number accepted into the program.
Compare the statistics, services, and success of your selected diversion program with another, similar diversion program in your state or a nearby state.
Explain what strategies or methods the 2 programs could learn from each other in order to reduce recidivism rates for their target offenders.
Cite at least 3 academic sources to support your paper, excluding weekly readings.
