Advocacy Policy Argument Outline

Opening Statement: Say something interesting here to get our attention, not a question.
Proposition: State the exact proposition here making sure it adheres to proposition guidelines.
Terms: Provide definitions, both dictionary and contextual to let us know what we are addressing in the proposition. Appropriately cite your sources.

I. State the reason for change.
A. What is the nature of the disparity?
B. How extreme is it?
C. Does the disparity cause harm to something or someone?
D. Is the disparity inherent in the present nature of things?


II. Show how the policy proposed will resolve the problem.
A. What is the change?
B. What is the mechanism for change (how will change be achieved? Whose authority, what agency, law etc.)
C. How much will it cost and how will it be paid?
D. Who will enforce the change? How will violations be handled? Who will enforce compliance?


III. State the consequences of the proposed change, both positive and negative.

A. How does the proposed policy address the disparity?

B. How does it overcome the disparity?
C. How workable is the proposed policy?
D. What are the subsidiary effects of the proposed policy?


Conclusion: remind us of your position and end with impact.

Sources should be cited using APA format and this paper requires college level grammar, spelling and word choice. Your sources should be complete in your outline. Your reference page should be in APA format. Minimum quality sources required for advocacy are 8. Definition sources do not count towards your source count.
Your outline and presentation should address all of the above points.
