Course Planning: Identifying Course Outcomes

In this assignment, you will use Understanding by Design®, or backward design published as:

“Wiggins, G., & McTighe, J. (2005). In Wiggins, G., & McTighe, J. (Eds.) Understanding by design Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.” , as a model for developing a course. You will continue to develop the cultural competency course for the organization established in the previous assignment. Use the same learning objectives you created in the previous assignment. Incorporate any feedback your instructor gave you regarding the learning objectives into this week’s assignment.

 

Identify your course subject matter.
o What is your course about?

Research the following:
o The subject matter of the course
o Industry standards regarding the subject matter

Identify the course audience.
o Who are the learners?
o How much do they know about the subject?
o Are they new hires, experienced employees, or a mix of the two?
o What is their education level?
o What demographic information is available about your audience? Think about the age, gender, education level, and computer literacy level of your audience.
o What skills and knowledge do the learners bring with them to the course?
o What are their learning styles?

Complete the attached “Backward Design Worksheet.” Use the learning objectives from the prior week. Answer all questions and fill in all areas.
