Discussion in 150 – 250 words:
- Begin thinking about specific places you are familiar with or where you have visited. Are you aware of any issues or controversies related to these places? A street? A school? A park? A business? Now, think about these places in a more “global” way. For example, if there is a park or school that you are already familiar with, think about what that place might look or be like in another region or country. What do public parks look like in a city like Tokyo or Moscow? What significance do these spaces hold? You might even use Instagram or Google images for ideas!
- Dierdre Mask has given us many ideas so far, so maybe you can apply some of those to places that interest you. Think about the “local lore” that exists where you live. Are there any spaces that have an interesting history or story? Here’s your place to discuss.
For this discussion, write about three (3) possible topics for your analysis and critique. Your final topic does not have to come from this brainstorming session, but this exercise is a way for you to contemplate some possibilities.
Post and then respond to at least two of your peers. In your responses, provide meaningful feedback or comment on ideas you find interesting. Ask for clarification, if needed. This is a way to help all of us in this phase of the writing process.
