Meleis′s Role Transition
Assignment Guidelines: Use these headings for each section of your paper and clearly and concisely address all requirements in each section. Guidelines to estimate the length of each section are provided.
- Introduction (¾ of page 1)
- Identify your role transition (i.e., RPN to BScN, RN to BScN, or IEN to BScN) and a very brief background of your nursing education and experience (3 to 4 lines).
- Briefly describe the main reason(s) that you chose to pursue the BScN and your career goal (3 to 4 lines).
- Explain how Meleis’ theory will help you to explore your role transition to BScN (4 to 5 lines).
- Provide a sentence outlining what the paper will present.
- Transitioning to BScN RN (last quarter of page 1 to first half of page 4)
- Apply Meleis’ theory (only those domains and constructs that you decide are specific to your transition to guide your plan for your transition to BScN, during your time as a BScN student. Include relevant research and literature from peer-reviewed resources to support your anticipated transition process during your time in the Post-Diploma Program as a BScN student. (Types of questions that you might consider that may help guide your reflection: How might your thought processes change from your current nursing role to your future BScN role? Are there courses that will be particularly helpful in meeting your career goal, courses that you anticipate will be challenging, time management needs, study skill needs, need to connect with others in the program, or other strengths or areas for improvement to enhance your educational journey? What are your plans to meet these anticipated challenges or needs? Strategies that you have developed to meet some challenges? Remember to keep it focused around a particular area, as it is a brief paper:)
- Conclusion (last half of page 4)
- Summarize the significant points that you identified in your paper that will likely be crucial in enabling your transition to a BScN prepared RN.
- Critical Appraisal of the application of Meleis’ Theory to your transition (page 5)
- Analyse Meleis’ theory using the following criteria. (Remember you will not have used all domains and constructs/concepts. Only address those that you deemed were appropriate for your transition). See the course text for more detailed explanations of these types of criteria for theory analysis. This is to be your analysis, not using other resources that have critiqued the theory.
- What is the purpose of this theory? Was its purpose meaningful to your own transition?
- Are complete descriptions provided for the concepts of this theory? If so, were they meaningful to your own transition?
- Is the theory logical and congruent as you applied it to your own transition?
- Are there any important missing concepts or components of the theory that you discovered as you applied it tp your own transition?
- Is the theory useful to guide your transition to the BScN prepared registered nurse role in Ontario?
- Provide rationale and brief examples to support your analysis.
