Final Exam Essay: Fall 2022
Follow these instructions carefully.
1. Read the attached essay, Sherman Alexie’s “Why the Best Kids’ Books are Written in Blood.”
2. Write a 1-2-page essay response to “Why the Best Kids’ Books,” using Alexie’s essay as evidence. For example, Do you agree with Alexie and why? Do you not agree with Alexie and why? Is he correct in his position? Are there other viewpoints to consider?
3. Develop a strong and specific thesis (assertion and essay map). Make sure your position is bold and clear, and support your thesis with concrete reasons and examples to prove your point and structure your essay response accordingly.
4. Make sure that your name, your professor’s name, your class, and date are all listed on the essay (i.e. MLA formatting).
5. Use MLA formatting to the best of your ability. You may use other resources, including your textbook or online resources, but make sure to cite them, again, to the best of your ability.
6. You should use In-text citations and You should have a Works Cited page, following MLA guidelines. You may use Norton Field Guide to Writing for the MLA information. You MUST have AT LEAST ONE in-text citation and ONE Works Cited entry.
7. Use the best possible grammar, sentence structure, and paragraphing skills. Make the essay interesting and enjoyable to read. In short, use ALL the essay-writing skills you have learned thus far to make your essay the best it can be.
