Introduction to Workplace Communications
Instructions
The research proposal assignment is designed to give you an early start on thinking about the topic you will research and write about for your final project for ENGL110. The oral presentation will address the same topic as the final project, since the oral presentation provides a less formal overview of the content of your final project. Because of this, you should select a topic that you are willing to examine very closely and for an extended length of time. Most importantly, choose a topic that you are passionate about and will enjoy diving into! You are going to become an expert on this topic and teach the class (and the instructor!) about it.
The proposal should be 2 pages long, double spaced (1 page for the proposal and 1 page for the bibliography). In your proposal, you should include the following details:
• Identify your project’s topic.
• Offer a brief (2 or 3 sentences) background on your topic, providing the reader with any information that they will need to understand your proposal.
• Identify the problem or research question that your project will focus on.
• Offer a brief (2 or 3 sentences) literature review, in which you summarize the research that has already been done on this topic.
• Explain how your project will build upon the existing research to help to solve the problem or answer the research question you introduced earlier in the proposal.
• Provide a bibliography (in APA format) that includes full citation information for at least 5 sources that you will use in your research.
Note that all academic assignments should be completed independently and should represent the student’s own, original work.
