Pinto Article
The label “First Generation” is an emotionally proud label those who are the first in their families to graduate from college. Mackenzie had an emotional connection to that label, too. But did she have legal connection? Is all she had an emotional connection? Consider this excerpt from Pinto’s article:
“Although Fierceton’s mother had gone to college and she [Mackenzie] was raised in an upper-middle-class home, Fierceton joined the first-generation and/or low-income student organization, and later claimed on applications that she was the first in her family to attend college. ‘It was the word ‘family’ for me,’ Fiercetont tells Katie. “i was like, I don’t have one of those. Why would I ever reference them? They don’t have anything to do with me or who I am?'” (3).
Do you think Mackenzie wrongly applied the label of “First Generation” to herself? Explain. (No psychological tirade, . No she’s narcissistic. She’s a compulsive liar. Or or or. Those clinical terms are not the analysis needed to make your conclusions for this assignment.)
