Challenges of DBT
One of the challenges of DBT is being able to validate client experiences (acceptance) while also setting limits and holding the client accountable to make changes from maladaptive patterns. This can be especially challenging when we know the client has a history of severe trauma.
How do you balance support while also holding the client accountable for his/her behavior?
Demonstrate your understanding of the application of DBT principles and skills in your response.
How might you respond/react to a client who presents with liability of emotions and fluctuates between idealizing you and devaluing you within the session?
What DBT principles or skills fit with your style/approach and what other interventions or techniques would you want to apply?
Identify a client presenting with alcohol/substance use or a co-occurring disorder and identify potential goals and interventions for treatment using DBT.
