Read (and re-read) the attached article by Michael Porter and Thomas Lee, MD (2013) Harvard Business News, The Strategy That Will Fix Healthcare. The significance of this article is the year it was written. From a 2013 perspective, it has been nearly a decade since Porter and Lee made their recommendations. Are costs under control? Are we any closer to achieving the best outcomes at the lowest prices? Have improvements been made to healthcare’s leading indicators? Are we demonstrating progress toward meaningful use? Is the U.S. healthcare delivery system truly delivering on its promise of a value-based model?
