Combating drugs and crime

The purpose of this assignment is to choose one national policy issue that is interesting to you and learn more about where the political parties stand on the issue. For this assignment, you will need to provide the following: (You will need to complete all of the steps in order to have the potential to earn the maximum points possible.)

Define how this issue selected affects the nation. Explain the status of the issue at the federal level. Why is this policy important? Are there specific demographics that this policy more directly impacts more than others? Who benefits and how do they benefit? Discuss who supports the policy, is it: by the majority of the population, the minority of the population, evenly split, and/or the elected officials of the country? Finally, why is this last question important?

Once you have completed the research, you will explain what you believe the proper role of government is regarding the policy issue selected and what level of government (local, state, and/or federal) should be involved (if any). Why did you choose this level (or levels) of government to enact the policy? You can also point out that multiple levels of government should be involved.

You must use a minimum of four (4) scholarly and varied sources to define the policy issue selected; to explain how the issue affects the nation; and the current regulatory status of the issue. You must use a minimum of three (3) primary sources for this section. An example would be a federal law or US Supreme Court decision. The last comment regarding sources for your research paper is that you will need a total of ten (10) sources overall.
