Human services assignment and agency interview
You are ready to become familiar with a Human Services agency or organization of your choice (Disabled American Veterans). Learners are sometimes surprised at how many people are flattered when asked to be interviewed about the work they do. Most learners are surprised at how much they enjoy and learn from the next assignment. Many people have a limited idea about what Human Services are, who provides them, and who benefits from them.
This assignment will provide you with an opportunity to learn more about human service delivery in general, and one agency specifically, as you choose one agency to learn about in detail. Learners are asked to either make a personal visit to interview someone at a human services agency OR to complete a detailed report about an agency learned about through an online search. You may also participate in a skype/video call since it would be very much like an in-person interview.
AGENCY INTERVIEW or ONLINE AGENCY SEARCH
To begin, review both project descriptions below and select one of the two assignment projects to complete. Then complete the assignment according to the details provided.
- Agency Interview
Learners will make a personal, on-site visit to one Human Services Agency or Organization of your choice and interview an employee about the work that he/she does and the agency that employs the interviewee.
For the visit, you should take the printed Agency Information Form to fill in and make notes of all the required information.
After the visit:
- Complete the Agency Information Form. Use complete sentences where appropriate, and be sure to include your overall impressions of the agency on the form.
OR
- Online Agency Search
Learners will choose an agency that provides Human Services in the community you now live in (Disabled American Veterans, website: About Our Charity – Disabled American Veterans – DAV) and complete an online search about it. Please use the Agency Information Form to document what you have learned.
After the online search:
- Complete the Agency Information Form. Use complete sentences where appropriate, and be sure to include your overall impressions of the agency on the form.
Your post should be at least 300-500 words, and must substantively address the assignment language above and any citations with proper style formatting. Remember to attach a copy of your Agency Review Form along with your post.
