The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat
The paper assignment, which is due Wednesday, November 16th, requires you to select three cases from different units of The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat. Find a common theme or idea that runs through all three cases and write an essay of approximately two and a half pages on each case. Remember that the three cases you select must each come from a different unit of the book (e.g., “Excesses” “Transports,” “The World of the Simple.”) No two cases can come from the same part.
In addition, you are to write a one-page introduction that announces and explains the theme uniting the three cases you have chosen, and a one-page conclusion that discusses the insights that you believe follow from your analyses.
The entire paper is to be 8-10 pages in length, double-spaced with one-inch margins and 12-point font.
In addition to the three cases you select, you are to make passing references to other cases elsewhere in the book that illustrate the themes you are analyzing.
These references can be to any other chapters in the text.
The only sources that you will need for this assignment are Sacks’ book; material posted in Links, Video and Reflections; class lectures and conversations; and the study questions posted for each chapter on the course web site. No research is required for this paper, but it is permitted. If you do consult outside sources, be sure to document them properly. You may use either APA or MLA formatting. Be sure as well to provide proper citations for the material you use from Sacks’ book, including page numbers and a works cited page.
