Content:

  1. Choose a country (not Canada, USA or any country of the group members)
  2. Explain how the country scores on four Hofstede’s cultural dimensions.
  3. Prepare relevant information about the country’s background (e.g. history, government, economic etc.) and explain how this relates to the country’s cultural dimensions identified by your group.
  4. Give examples of two management practices (e.g. leadership style, hiring practices, team work, promotion practices) and two examples of business protocol/etiquette (what is appropriate behaviour in the business setting of the particular country) based on the cultural dimensions of that particular country.
  5. Provide three pieces of advice to foreign managers to prepare them how to conduct business in that country.

 

This of this project as a consultation for a company who is going to send one of their managers abroad. You are in charge to prepare a paper and presentation that will help the manager to be well prepared for the cultural differences of that country and organization.

  1. Your paper must fulfill the appropriate academic standards (e.g. title page, introduction, proper subheadings, proper APA citations and references; conclusion)
  2. Only minimal and short quotes are permitted (below 50 words). Paraphrasing is a crucial ability to be developed in academic writing.
  3. For all aspects of this paper, you will need to conduct extensive outside research, drawing on multiple RELIABLE sources, as well as explicitly apply concepts we’ve discussed in class. The Internet is a great place to get information – e.g. company sites, business news sources (e.g. Bloomberg Business Week, Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Forbes). BUT this is not the only source to be used. FDU has a great online research library, and you should use it extensively. News sources, business publications, trade journals, etc. must also be utilized and referenced. Open-source websites (like Wikipedia), blogs, prior student work, and sites with no authorship attributed are NOT acceptable.
