Respond to the following.
I think it’s interesting that the government should develop proactive procedures and designs to prevent disasters;
- How do you suppose they prevent disasters that they have no control over? Minimum of 25 to 50 words
- If solid engineering solutions were devised, why wouldn’t response and recovery spending for disasters be completely eliminated? Minimum of 50 words.
If an emergency manager wants to push local officials to be more proactive when it comes to pursuing mitigation projects, the best course of action is to educate the public about the benefits. Once the public is on board you now have the opportunity to reach out and provide training to local officials.
- Why is public education so important for emergency managers when it’s in reference to preparedness for possible disaster such as a hurricane, tornado, or flooding. Minimum of 50 words.
Incident Action Plan (IAP) guide and FEMA NIMS IS-241 course
There are some similarities between what is taught as the “problem-solving model” in the IS-241 course and the phases of managing an incident described by the IAP guide. The problem-solving model details five steps starting with “Identifying the Problem” and ending with “Evaluate the Situation.” The IAP guide also uses five phases to resolve incidents. The first of these phases is “Understand the Situation” and the last is “Execute, Evaluate, and Revise the Plan.” Both documents understand the importance of defining the problem or the situation before you attempt to solve it, and rightfully so, you cannot intentionally solve a conundrum until you understand that it exists.
- Explain why “Understand the Situation” is critical when handling an emergency incident. How does it leave to Executing, Evaluating, and Revising the Plan? Minimum of 200 words
