Journal #4
Directions:
- Answer the following questions based on your interpretation and application of the text. Your responses must have content from the reading included within them to receive full credit.
- Each response should be at least one paragraph in length (5+ sentences). THERE ARE TWO PARTS TO THIS JOURNAL ENTRY!
- Please do not copy directly out of the textbook.
- Submit in this format; write the questions out and do not submit one long block of text – for this journal entry it is OK to submit it in question format with your answer underneath the question. You can submit this assignment as a Word Document or PDF. Please do not submit a “pages” document as I am unable to read those and I will have to ask you to resubmit or a link to a google doc because I will not be able to open it.
Chapter Two: Intercultural Communication
Part One:
Watch this video on Code Switching
Part Two:
Answer these questions in at least one paragraph each (connect to the reading and your own experiences for full credit).
- Can you please describe an example of when you have code-switched yourself? (EVERYONE code-switches at some point – for example, if you speak another language; if you’re struggling with this, please message me).
- Do you think that you can be an effective communicator without code-switching? Have you ever judged another person for not code-switching to meet the needs of the context?
- Does code-switching make you any less of “yourself” if you’re doing it to fit in? Example: are you being fake?
