Background Scenario
Your establishment has recently adopted a new handheld POS system. Previously the restaurant used a handwritten system of communication. The handwritten system was used for communicating guest’s orders and for bill preparation.
Using the reading from POS notes, POS manufacturer websites or literature and the supplemental notes provided to you, complete the following:
1) List the advantages and disadvantages to a handheld POS system. (5 Marks)
2) The restaurant currently uses a server to guest ratio of 1:15 and has 300 seats. The salesperson claims that the handheld POS system can save each server up to 10 minutes of time away from guests over the course of a 5 hour dinner period. Will the time savings affect your server to guest ratio? How? Will the time savings impact your upcoming schedules? How? Make sure to explain the Calculations and answer each part of the question(5 Marks)
3) Your Restaurant has 300 seats. It is 2 weeks before your first Saturday night (your busiest night) using the new POS system and you are in charge of the server schedule for that night. As you look through the reservation book and the calendar of events you expect the turnover rates to be as follows:

Based on the expected number of guests and a new server to guest ratio mandated by the owner of 1:20, create a schedule for the upcoming Saturday, complete with in times and approximate out times for the evening. For security purposes, at least 2 servers must close the restaurant, the opening and closing shift should have allocated time for setup(half hour) and all rules for Break should be followed in accordance with The Ontario provincial guidelines (5 Marks)
