This is your opportunity to explain your research topic, reasons for your film/TV show choice, and set out the methodology of your analysis. - What is the main focus of the film/TV show? The characters? The story? Wider themes and contexts?
- Are these things highlighted by the text’s content, or certain contextual factors?
- What can be learnt from it?
- In terms of both content (such as styles, conventions, etc), and wider contexts (for example, its production, setting, etc).

Knowledge and Understanding
Have you understood the topic of the brief? Are you able to communicate your knowledge and understanding of the wider subject area that your case study is situated in?
Structure, Presentation and Referencing
Have you structured your video essay appropriately, including an introduction and conclusion, for example? Is the script to a high standard with minimal errors? Have you referenced your sources?
Critical Judgement
Is there a coherent argument in your piece? Are you able to articulate thinking beyond those sources that you have referenced?
