-Avoid using first person singular pronouns (I, me, my, mine, we, us, our, our, get, you, your, yours, got, getting, gotten)
-Use quoted evidence from the text(s) to support each point you make. Use MLA format for all documentation.
-Ensure that your essay follows all formatting requirements. -Essays must deal with one or more (depending on the topic chosen) of the short works studied in this course. Other texts may not be substituted.
-5 paragraphs- each paragraph should be 5-8 sentences long
-1 paragraph- Topic sentence (only one sentence long) simple structure, what is this paragraph about, Content and even from echo the thesis statement.
-2 paragraph- Development of topic (1-2 sentences) Expand the idea presented in the topic sentence. Add nuance/explain complications, keep it abstract: this isn’t the place for examples.
-3 paragraph- Presentation of your evidence (1-2 sentences) Quote or paraphrase, include a citation, don’t include more material than you plan to address. All quotations must be integrated into sentences you write: they can’t stand on their own!
-4 paragraph- Analysis of evidence (1-2 sentences) time to connect dots:- What about the evidence is significant? What connections are you using it to make? How does the evidence support your argument?
-5 Paragraph- Conclusion/transition (1 sentence keep it short) sum up your paragraph’s importance. Create a link to the next point. Did a problem arise in this paragraph? Will you address the next?
