Final Research Paper Prompt
Choose one of the following prompts for the focus of your paper. For this assignment, you will need to compare and contrast two works, each from a separate genre. This is to say you can use a story and a poem, a story and a play, or a play and a poem.
Since this is the final paper, it is substantially longer than the previous papers. So, consider your approach carefully to ensure that your argument is complex enough to carry for 2000 words.
You are free to write on works that you have previously written on provided that this final paper is a new approach rather than a new draft of a previous paper. Also, the whole textbook is free game to choose from; you are not limited to just the works that were assigned during the class.
As for literary works not in the textbook that you might want to use, email me first and I will take alternate stories, poems, and dramas under consideration.
Option #1: Many works of literature deal with political or social issues. Choose two works, each from a separate genre, that focus on a political or social issue. Then write an essay in which you analyze how the author uses literary elements to explore this issue and explain how the issue contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole.
Assignment Details:
The paper needs to be in MLA document format.
The paper should be a minimum of 2000 words and utilize at least five outside sources in addition to the stories and the textbook.
The five sources must be of substantial academic quality rather than quick notes and other such sources.
All sources, the stories and the research sources, must be cited in MLA format in the text of the paper and on a Works Cited page.
