Do you think technology does more to connect us or does it leave us feeling more alone?
Cyber anthropologist Amber Case argues in her TED Talk that cell phones create an “ambient intimacy.” Do you think this ability to connect at anytime with anyone increases or decreases the depth of our connection to other people?
Psychologist Sherry Turkle argues in a New York Times article that we tend more and more to “turn away from talking face to face to chat online” and that “empathetic conversations” are less likely “because we keep our phones in the landscape.” Do think cell phones have reduced our ability to have deep meaningful conversations and to relate to the experiences of other people? Why or why not?
My take. Technology helps to make more online connections with are useful in todays age but overall the use of too much technology makes us feel alone at time due to being consumed by it 24/7. Touch on how the use of technology has makes us less able hold conversation while out in public setting nowadays. Use both the article and the TED talk below as the two sources.
