Pulling structured data points from the electronic health record and reporting that data to a government entity such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) has become a common practice over the last few years.  CMS has designed the specifics for reporting this data into several measures that are referred to as eCQMs (electronic clinical quality measure).
eCQMs help a hospital report on data such as ensuring a patient receives stroke education after experiencing a stroke for the first time or reporting the successful prescribing of an anti-clotting medication to a patient that has experienced a clot.  eCQMs will become an increasingly common method of pulling data out of electronic health records that will be used for hospital reporting purposes.  This assignment will help you explore the world of the eCQM and understand the important role this type of data monitoring will have on hospitals today and in the near future.

Instructions
Using the links provided, please answer these three questions (use the template above for Mod 4.2):
What are clinical quality measures (CQM)? Electronic Clinical Quality Measures (Links to an external site.)

How are eCQMs developed/structured? (HINT:  You may need to use some additional resources on the Web to answer this question…)

Choose one measure and briefly summarize the details of that eCQM.  Click this link (Links to an external site.) and scroll down to see a couple of options to choose from (e.g., Anti-Depressants, Breast Cancer Screening, Childhood Immunizations, etc).  Once you choose a measure, provide a summary of the measure on your template.  We’re looking for a summary of the measure description, the population being measured, who is excluded from this measurement, and who is included (numerator).
