Communication Skills: Newsletter Assignment


Human Services students will have many opportunities in their professional careers to write newsletters for a variety of reasons. They may be required to promote their programs and initiatives, provide information for fundraising activities, or simply communicate information to colleagues, partners and families.
Procedure

1.
Select an “agency” to create a newsletter for your area of study or interest. Some examples include:

a.
ELCC – Newsletter for childcare center outlining activities for the month.

b.
CYC – Newsletter promoting recreation, fine arts activities, and or events and activities at a local youth center.

c.
EA – Newsletter at a K-6 School to highlight school announcements.

NOTE:
The newsletter must be written for a hypothetical organization or school. Do not create a newsletter for an existing organization.
You will not be permitted to borrow logos from existing organizations; you will also not be permitted to borrow articles from any outside sources. Doing so will constitute plagiarism and result in a grade of “0.”

2. Rely on the course materials to help you determine the type of information you will include in your newsletter. Information should be tailored for a specific type of organization and audience.

3. Create the information you want to include first, then format the newsletter to accommodate your writing, images, and other required newsletter elements.

4. Abide by the formatting and design tips and suggestions presented in the Unit 5 course materials.

5. Submit your Newsletter to the appropriate Dropbox.
Formatting

The newsletter must:

be two full pages

be well balanced between written articles and visual elements

contain all of the required elements presented in Unit 5: Section A of the course materials

This assignment will be graded according to the rubric provided in the Newsletter Assignment Dropbox. Review this rubric carefully before finalizing and submitting your work.
